The journey will continue and I will share the pictures of my garden on my Instagram account ( @dragonflygarden ) this is an open account so I invite your to follow me. When I started this blog 15 years ago I was a garden novice and my garden was an open canvas. The canvas has change many times over the years and the garden looks so different today from what it was back then, but isn't that the point of gardening, continuous changes that never end. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w-9U38nfwh4/YZ7y8R78MHI/AAAAAAAAPC8/jilG38pelrUOivpJUWLI1wg95F0qrQ1MwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0002.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w-9U38nfwh4/YZ7y8R78MHI/AAAAAAAAPC8/jilG38pelrUOivpJUWLI1wg95F0qrQ1MwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xy39O1WNLS0/YZ7y8kdvnWI/AAAAAAAAPDE/RAE4ngbLyHUud4083TRArvOi8DZMalJywCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0007.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xy39O1WNLS0/YZ7y8kdvnWI/AAAAAAAAPDE/RAE4ngbLyHUud4083TRArvOi8DZMalJywCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0007.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j15_VJTDyt8/YZ7y8dVJb8I/AAAAAAAAPDA/JsUk9yrr_dIOAIM_IC9l9WfBM0BRLEcQgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0008.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j15_VJTDyt8/YZ7y8dVJb8I/AAAAAAAAPDA/JsUk9yrr_dIOAIM_IC9l9WfBM0BRLEcQgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0008.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DGC_QqMgiAE/YZ7y8w97zSI/AAAAAAAAPDI/AaPmgjC6gAUsZEBw-Ac-RaKyaJcn5HlCACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0012.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DGC_QqMgiAE/YZ7y8w97zSI/AAAAAAAAPDI/AaPmgjC6gAUsZEBw-Ac-RaKyaJcn5HlCACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0012.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XmW9a62Vfa8/YZ7y9Lwuv7I/AAAAAAAAPDM/RTbJnp-HWyku2_0q7IOuLPuXdqxaubWngCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0013.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XmW9a62Vfa8/YZ7y9Lwuv7I/AAAAAAAAPDM/RTbJnp-HWyku2_0q7IOuLPuXdqxaubWngCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0013.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a3PPxZlM4kI/YZ7y9MYZiKI/AAAAAAAAPDQ/QLUK468nCxIe0RO_5hfkLUx0MkcwLxdpgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0015.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a3PPxZlM4kI/YZ7y9MYZiKI/AAAAAAAAPDQ/QLUK468nCxIe0RO_5hfkLUx0MkcwLxdpgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0015.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nzCgYaAe6as/YZ7y9WMEIGI/AAAAAAAAPDU/OE4cf4pB4RU3EI5CneQAtBjXov2etTr8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0020.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nzCgYaAe6as/YZ7y9WMEIGI/AAAAAAAAPDU/OE4cf4pB4RU3EI5CneQAtBjXov2etTr8ACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0020.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n1sK8WzJVkg/YZ7y9T3GE-I/AAAAAAAAPDY/_jTHV7VoCZgK69Dj5WsopbrurMcTX-lygCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0023.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n1sK8WzJVkg/YZ7y9T3GE-I/AAAAAAAAPDY/_jTHV7VoCZgK69Dj5WsopbrurMcTX-lygCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0023.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /> <span style="font-size: medium;">I would like to thank you all for following The Dragonfly blog over the years and for your thoughtful comments. This will problebly means that next year I will not get too many mangos from that tree. I also gave my avocado tree a good trim, this year we didn't get any fruits. I am not sure if it had to do with the lack of rain during the winter season, but looking around to other trees in the neighborhood and many have few avocados this year. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gvMVEgK8YxU/YOoL_qK7FbI/AAAAAAAAO-Y/xlk6g483ghM7IGvKWqhP621LAfagZ_odgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210701.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gvMVEgK8YxU/YOoL_qK7FbI/AAAAAAAAO-Y/xlk6g483ghM7IGvKWqhP621LAfagZ_odgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210701.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TqbQaGF8sxY/YOoMBBcKaVI/AAAAAAAAO-c/6yswqAC4NKkCC5-ElmRh0t4eQnIrYL9IACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210702.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TqbQaGF8sxY/YOoMBBcKaVI/AAAAAAAAO-c/6yswqAC4NKkCC5-ElmRh0t4eQnIrYL9IACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210702.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eb3zo0Q8wsM/YOoMCIyXsII/AAAAAAAAO-g/x_cPx0yR7CktHtQzz-1qLGY-tofexkdXwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210703.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6000" data-original-width="4000" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eb3zo0Q8wsM/YOoMCIyXsII/AAAAAAAAO-g/x_cPx0yR7CktHtQzz-1qLGY-tofexkdXwCLcBGAsYHQ/w266-h400/210703.JPG" width="266" /></a></div><div><br /></div><span style="font-size: medium;">One of my neighbors was redoing his garden this week and called me to see if wanted a couple of concrete benches and a old Spanish Tinajon (needs a little paint). Before all my fruit trees and those of my neighbors matured to full grown trees, my back yard was a sunny garden. These days my choice of plants are mostly shade loving plants. This past week I planted Caladiums in one of my semi-shaded beds. I have to confess that I have become a fan of shade plants, there is more green and the garden looks fuller. The shade also makes gardening in the South Florida weather more enjoyable. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bProgf71MzQ/YLvJdX95W8I/AAAAAAAAO4c/gKTZQ5nQYZYCN1K229xJ1BoB_nCI9QMwwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bProgf71MzQ/YLvJdX95W8I/AAAAAAAAO4c/gKTZQ5nQYZYCN1K229xJ1BoB_nCI9QMwwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0049.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tc1qq4cC2zA/YLvJhfcusRI/AAAAAAAAO4g/aijoaXckF6wiQCGK8lIxC6cL8SZJSsCTwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tc1qq4cC2zA/YLvJhfcusRI/AAAAAAAAO4g/aijoaXckF6wiQCGK8lIxC6cL8SZJSsCTwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0048.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xs4fM3x3z5E/YLvJkuWZGKI/AAAAAAAAO4k/ESlGzPi-Qq4NPUvQKKB5hTySsMJNre1ogCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xs4fM3x3z5E/YLvJkuWZGKI/AAAAAAAAO4k/ESlGzPi-Qq4NPUvQKKB5hTySsMJNre1ogCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0050.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zq-uvt0ttpg/YLvJqpHFpuI/AAAAAAAAO4o/EvSy4aaWblgP8UZ4f8zubh88xn5rXDYNQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zq-uvt0ttpg/YLvJqpHFpuI/AAAAAAAAO4o/EvSy4aaWblgP8UZ4f8zubh88xn5rXDYNQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0051.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1a5uhApX6SE/YLvJ8t4EJcI/AAAAAAAAO44/cgSTsj6Hrcsra7PLrZv19UYPgMJDW-cYgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1a5uhApX6SE/YLvJ8t4EJcI/AAAAAAAAO44/cgSTsj6Hrcsra7PLrZv19UYPgMJDW-cYgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0014.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This year I let the Blue Porter Weed plants grow all over, they are great pollinator plants</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5tlhsVtXtl4/YLvKbgPO5jI/AAAAAAAAO5A/QRQFwIY-_90ztErUXMQv0rOe6V6Yjwr_QCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5tlhsVtXtl4/YLvKbgPO5jI/AAAAAAAAO5A/QRQFwIY-_90ztErUXMQv0rOe6V6Yjwr_QCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZL3Q0AylWEg/YLvKdrUqOCI/AAAAAAAAO5E/tFXJNZCs794y9GbHmbiZ3Q_lRlffVq-wwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZL3Q0AylWEg/YLvKdrUqOCI/AAAAAAAAO5E/tFXJNZCs794y9GbHmbiZ3Q_lRlffVq-wwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0003.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lw8KtzTA5SM/YLvKfEn_u9I/AAAAAAAAO5I/Ro1KFlPBESIwDsgsbUxbAhPe_1tyTwJ6ACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lw8KtzTA5SM/YLvKfEn_u9I/AAAAAAAAO5I/Ro1KFlPBESIwDsgsbUxbAhPe_1tyTwJ6ACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0008.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EZmXqn25kDY/YLvKiNqwOPI/AAAAAAAAO5M/p5MIK7p74z0MCegzUOX_DAID1WRequAjACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EZmXqn25kDY/YLvKiNqwOPI/AAAAAAAAO5M/p5MIK7p74z0MCegzUOX_DAID1WRequAjACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/DSC_0078.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I found a gardening show on Amazon Prime call Gardners World. This show is produce by the BBC in Great Britain, very popular with British gardeners. The show main presenter Monty Don does the show from his own magnificent garden, giving information and tips on the do and don't of different plants. Other presenters visit public and private gardens throughout the British Isles. The one hour show is on in Britain from spring to fall every Friday night. One result from watching this show has been that now I am hook on using cuttings and sowing seeds. The shows on Amazon Prime are about four years old, for newer shows you have to subscribe to BritBox a subscription service for all BBC shows.</span></p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d8Sksz27oiQ/YLvK7ygXTJI/AAAAAAAAO5c/KGv_kphIvkcqo5Dbc2S5TPsuf0SZ8Zr9ACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d8Sksz27oiQ/YLvK7ygXTJI/AAAAAAAAO5c/KGv_kphIvkcqo5Dbc2S5TPsuf0SZ8Zr9ACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/DSC_0047.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nNZtpMRVnA4/YLvLAzVxXgI/AAAAAAAAO5g/MmSfiRdOb3Y_o6-lmBIHt4tJ09bvFr7vwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nNZtpMRVnA4/YLvLAzVxXgI/AAAAAAAAO5g/MmSfiRdOb3Y_o6-lmBIHt4tJ09bvFr7vwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/DSC_0038.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Mango season is in full swing, we are eating these delicious fruits everyday and so do our squirrel friends, so far we have enough for everyone. I filled up the place with bromeliads, potted plants and started a search to replace the Creeper. This part of the garden is the first thing anyone sees when visiting my back garden. I was not happy with the way it looked, a new makeover was need it. I planted a Bleeding Hart vine to replace the Rangoon Creeper, I also moved my collection of potted Bougainvillea plants into the space and added a bistro set I found on the street (It happen to be exactly the same as one I have in another corner of the garden. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XgV2fos8OR4/YI3vSQA7UXI/AAAAAAAAO0Q/EmN-zxq_kZ4Tu_RoztXxilNjiavIkK0PACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/210501.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1361" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XgV2fos8OR4/YI3vSQA7UXI/AAAAAAAAO0Q/EmN-zxq_kZ4Tu_RoztXxilNjiavIkK0PACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210501.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ME8i5bGHlpA/YI3vSnLpjiI/AAAAAAAAO0U/WEBwIR6dfhg_CPoEBPEp8zgO8JayDgCFgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210502.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ME8i5bGHlpA/YI3vSnLpjiI/AAAAAAAAO0U/WEBwIR6dfhg_CPoEBPEp8zgO8JayDgCFgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210502.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uWCuaFQal9o/YI3vSupBAiI/AAAAAAAAO0Y/jFOtHg1dTyM2PjSA59V5BhAg-i2f3laGwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210503.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uWCuaFQal9o/YI3vSupBAiI/AAAAAAAAO0Y/jFOtHg1dTyM2PjSA59V5BhAg-i2f3laGwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210503.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p>This is what the place looked before, like a fool I left the trunk of the old Rangoon Creeper in, it only took a couple of weeks for the shoots to come up all over the newly planted bromeliads. Ground orchids do very well in the front of the house, where the afternoon sun can be hard on any plant specially during the summer months. The last couple of years the orchids were not blooming as much and looked a bit crowded. I decided to take them all out and divide them, I am not sure if this orchid can be divided, we will see soon if it was a mistake. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rSNxxSU51so/YHYC21M30uI/AAAAAAAAOxI/veGvlQYpg7YR2sf3VlV3cZwSveq5TS_IQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rSNxxSU51so/YHYC21M30uI/AAAAAAAAOxI/veGvlQYpg7YR2sf3VlV3cZwSveq5TS_IQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210401.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1ivp5qVXcM/YHYC2xpwQgI/AAAAAAAAOxQ/ffMJUjLrIKMrogTZi1mfrmYpv4bPT4s3gCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6000" data-original-width="4000" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1ivp5qVXcM/YHYC2xpwQgI/AAAAAAAAOxQ/ffMJUjLrIKMrogTZi1mfrmYpv4bPT4s3gCLcBGAsYHQ/w266-h400/210402.JPG" width="266" /></a></div><br />Before<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lj528dQcRDk/YHYC30nqdFI/AAAAAAAAOxY/jv0RjZFl1HEBKUViCfhv-IBvpCpt6VfWQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lj528dQcRDk/YHYC30nqdFI/AAAAAAAAOxY/jv0RjZFl1HEBKUViCfhv-IBvpCpt6VfWQCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h266/210404.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><p>Mixing lavender with pentas and a ti plant for the front door</p><p><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vx_yo9fCQYA/YHYC34Bkl4I/AAAAAAAAOxc/j92Jaee1D-oQ-LbJ9CYhHjoE-ZSDOQ3uwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210405.JPG" width="640" /></p><p></p>This past year I eliminated several plants that were covering the old back garden fence. I don't like looking at a 30 year old wooden fence, it needs to be cover with some greenery. In this corner of the garden I had a very healthy bunch of heliconias but with time they have moved on to my neighbor's garden where he is enjoying them. Our weather does not change much all year year-round, but the plants have an internal clock that is telling them is "show time". In the last couple of weeks many plants in the garden are breaking out with beautiful blooms, like this Amaryllis. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the second year that I get flowers from this plant and she is not done yet. There are two more shoots coming up. This plant came from my father's garden, she was sharing a container with a hibiscus and not doing very well. I separated both plants and it made all the difference. This was so typical of the way my father garden, he probably found the dead plant in someone's garbage can, took the bulbs out and planted them in the first container he found in his garden. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9okcHrB1UBY/YFd1p8CtkoI/AAAAAAAAOtU/kAmm81o1RBwhz8-vZQneS4yqzQsgMHoLgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210331.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9okcHrB1UBY/YFd1p8CtkoI/AAAAAAAAOtU/kAmm81o1RBwhz8-vZQneS4yqzQsgMHoLgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210331.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mkgt272n9Gs/YFd1p6ygCtI/AAAAAAAAOtM/fzn5y2YVQbE--nsdbw47I_nAZExX95LQwCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210332.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mkgt272n9Gs/YFd1p6ygCtI/AAAAAAAAOtM/fzn5y2YVQbE--nsdbw47I_nAZExX95LQwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210332.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lPI6SdwOpQI/YFd1pwJoOoI/AAAAAAAAOtQ/XRJgryR5_oYkR_uOqJp8IqLtp45lkaNpQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210333.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lPI6SdwOpQI/YFd1pwJoOoI/AAAAAAAAOtQ/XRJgryR5_oYkR_uOqJp8IqLtp45lkaNpQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210333.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p>This has also been an excellent year for orchids and they all are flowering at the same time. This will mean reducing the variety of plants and adding more color. Is going to be a challenge, due to the sun exposure in my western expose home. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VrUK139d0QU/YE5ilTpkl_I/AAAAAAAAOsQ/WXMoH7MtjLcxEvAd3Db_rpcJGW0QBxG8gCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/210321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VrUK139d0QU/YE5ilTpkl_I/AAAAAAAAOsQ/WXMoH7MtjLcxEvAd3Db_rpcJGW0QBxG8gCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/210321.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p>I<span style="font-size: medium;"> started this past January with this area under the powderpuff tree. I added plants in containers to fill it up, but I was not happy with the way it looked. The job of taking out all the old plants and letting the new pubs breathe and get some sun, is not an easy one but necessary if you want to keep some semblance of order in the garden. The bromeliads in the picture below, represent about one third of all the plants in the front garden (there are more in the back garden). I have decided to reduce the number of plants I have. The job is getting too big for me to handle. This year I am getting rid of all the Portea's in my collection, the flower spikes are beautiful but they are big and too aggressive, not suited for small gardens like my. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Last year I told myself that it would be my last year wasting my time on a vegetable garden that barely produced. This year with Covid 19 keeping us all close to home with not much to do, I decided to give it another try.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tBEbJCj33Ek/X7GvgaBTK-I/AAAAAAAAOb8/csftkCM2nEAKSRfqUxf8J0NVXManbh3sACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/201114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tBEbJCj33Ek/X7GvgaBTK-I/AAAAAAAAOb8/csftkCM2nEAKSRfqUxf8J0NVXManbh3sACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/201114.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;"><br /></p><p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">This is the only corner of the back garden that gets from 4 to 5 hours of morning sun everyday. As you can see everything is in containers, I am hedging my bets using soil sold for this type of gardening. The year of 2020 has not been a great year for nurseries in my home town, and it has affected the availability of vegetable seedling. I am mostly planting seeds this year, like arugula, spinach, chives and lettuces. The hot and wet weather in my zone 10B are not ideal conditions for sowing seeds, but I’ll give it a try. </p><p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;"><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c8GNlaRukYo/X7GvgvKBqcI/AAAAAAAAOcA/JEkvZyjHMi0W1rnzAQjOUnjhqY1OqZ6NQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/201115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c8GNlaRukYo/X7GvgvKBqcI/AAAAAAAAOcA/JEkvZyjHMi0W1rnzAQjOUnjhqY1OqZ6NQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/201115.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last week while we waited fo tropical storm Eta, I had over 50 monarch caterpillars born in the Milkweed plants. font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">I have lived in my home for over 30 years, the first 29 years were squirrel free. The location of my neighborhood had something to do with it, to the east there is a big Interstate highway that keeps wildlife from crossing over and the Florida Everglades to the west. Last year we got our first squirrel visitor, he liked our neighborhood so much that he brought all his friends, now we are overrun with the little critters and they are not cute anymore. They have taken over the bird feeders and they love to feast on our fruit trees. I bet you didn’t know that squirrels love avocados, this year the avocado harvest was plentiful and I did’t mind sharing my fruits, but the mango season was not that good and and a third of all my mangos were damage by our four legged friends. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KtA2TinnOHI/X3ec8aAt4HI/AAAAAAAAOYU/mMCIuDBq9gITYl0C_9TRmRg6jGjBNsaVgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/200915.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KtA2TinnOHI/X3ec8aAt4HI/AAAAAAAAOYU/mMCIuDBq9gITYl0C_9TRmRg6jGjBNsaVgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h426/200915.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">My father in his old age, spent most of his time outside in his garden keeping squirrels away from his fruit trees, I used to think that was funny. As I write this post there is tropical storm Laura moving in our direction, the projections are that she will pass south of us, but with these storms you never know.</p><p>Starting new garden projects during this time of the year is not advisable. This vacation was different like everything is these days, but it was good to get out of the city and enjoy a relaxing time on a semi secluded beach. For the first time the garden was left unattended for the two weeks I was away, the person that usually comes to check on the house was not able to do it this year, and making things worse, my sprinkler system is not working (no problem it rained everyday) To the end of my holiday, tropical storm Isaias decided to pass nearby the Florida coast bringing tropical storm winds to the city. I worried what I would find when I came back to Miami, but I was lucky the garden fare well, a little messy and overgrown but no damage from the storm. I lost a few potted plants from the excessive amount of rain, but that was to be expected. <a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ez2l7ZPuoH8/XzA11tGGNSI/AAAAAAAAOT8/Dr1d6Eeynaoo12MoX3SihR8hVEfwBpIEACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/200801.JPG" style="display: inline; Everyday when I do my daily morning walk in the garden, I can tell that something is missing, there are very few bees around and is not for a lack of flowers. The blue porter weed, the firebush and coleuses are full of summer blooms. I don't know the reason, it could be colony collapse disorder, or it could also be that the spring agriculture planting in South Florida was disrupted this year by Covid 19. My home is less than a quarter of a mile from farm land, the late spring vegetables were never planted this year, and the imported beehives they use to pollinate the flowers never came. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MxLIIqycoKs/XwokmIqM8cI/AAAAAAAAOQc/30XENQsSluYeZcnVdrebD9BQ3Yu640t8wCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0023.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MxLIIqycoKs/XwokmIqM8cI/AAAAAAAAOQc/30XENQsSluYeZcnVdrebD9BQ3Yu640t8wCLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/DSC_0023.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KYz9pLACgg8/Xwokww6fu2I/AAAAAAAAOQk/l87_uQTp2-EYPuJjKK3JtCTjH_JrTQY-QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Bee%2Bblue%2Bporter.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KYz9pLACgg8/Xwokww6fu2I/AAAAAAAAOQk/l87_uQTp2-EYPuJjKK3JtCTjH_JrTQY-QCLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/Bee%2Bblue%2Bporter.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">More bromeliad flowers</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WlXX6kXNOO0/XwoluYrhMMI/AAAAAAAAORY/pB40EKrRlOIoJAUZI_1l7XAruo6WsNekQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0005.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WlXX6kXNOO0/XwoluYrhMMI/AAAAAAAAORY/pB40EKrRlOIoJAUZI_1l7XAruo6WsNekQCLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/DSC_0005.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This bromeliad is a little early this year, they tend to bloom in early fall</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nC4WFSuQFfA/XwoluaB38mI/AAAAAAAAORc/NM7ZXk9bVcgYTW6dIU6cKkvGJNZQwEbbQCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0015.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nC4WFSuQFfA/XwoluaB38mI/AAAAAAAAORc/NM7ZXk9bVcgYTW6dIU6cKkvGJNZQwEbbQCLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/DSC_0015.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Is the time of the year to harvest star fruits and avocados. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am looking for a good receipt to cook star fruits</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JMJeGOQGozI/Xwol5_YjHYI/AAAAAAAAORk/YXj7LP4YpLYmNIq1VYn5r6tB6_rivCnwgCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0004.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JMJeGOQGozI/Xwol5_YjHYI/AAAAAAAAORk/YXj7LP4YpLYmNIq1VYn5r6tB6_rivCnwgCLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/DSC_0004.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Upj_ho_5VfM/Xwol58pCi3I/AAAAAAAAORg/tMhOsedK3043S8n6rbBdqvgMBjBf1PW-QCLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0009.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="333" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Upj_ho_5VfM/Xwol58pCi3I/AAAAAAAAORg/tMhOsedK3043S8n6rbBdqvgMBjBf1PW-QCLcBGAsYHQ/w500-h333/DSC_0009.JPG" width="500" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This orchid is the last transplant from my parents house, the new home is my avocado tree.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qHDHfljdByk/XwomEE0zWXI/AAAAAAAAORs/XDd0pnRGgYQ7h6aNG3oaJCpwkgTru6GaACLcBGAsYHQ/s6000/DSC_0008.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="6000" height="416" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qHDHfljdByk/XwomEE0zWXI/AAAAAAAAORs/XDd0pnRGgYQ7h6aNG3oaJCpwkgTru6GaACLcBGAsYHQ/w625-h416/DSC_0008.JPG" width="625" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Rusty in Miamihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269773686173984184noreply@blogger.com0
