Hollyhocks in bloom

This year, the Hollyhocks rewarded me with four different types of flowers. All of you know my obsession with Hollyhocks and how I gather pods of seeds whenever I see a plant. I like to be surprised, so I place all the seeds I collect in a jar and WALLA! Sometimes my tactic doesn’t reward me with variety, like last year when all my plants turned out to have white flowers.

Very lovely, Rusty. I really must try my hand at hollyhocks next year! I really like the single blooming ones like you have. Are there any secrets to growing them in our heat?

How do you keep your bougainvillea blooming so heavily? It seems that mine bloom heavy the first year then the blooms are more scant thereafter.

Look at that! I didn't even know we could grow Hollyhocks here! Okra and Hibiscus, yes, but...wow!

That first one is spectacular...do you happen to know that variety?

I also love the color of that first one.

All so beautiful-great that you got a variety, too. I too like to be surprised sometimes.
Rhonda: bougainvillea bloom best after drought following rain and after pruning.

All these Hollyhocks are gorgeous but I absolutely adore the dark maroon one! Any particular tips for growing them?

Beautiful hollyhocks....remind me of my dear departed Grandmother, she always had them in her delightful cottage garden.
A joy, thank you.

I didn't know you could grow those down here either - I will have to try them! When do you plant them?

Hollyhocks are suppose to be plant host for a couple of butterfly larvaes. I have a butterfly garden at my house on 20th Street SW & 27 Ave. Just wanted to know if you have been getting larvaes eating your plants. What has been your experience? Gracias.
