Monarch Butterflies

Since I planted Milkweed, the garden has become Monarch Butterflies central. The only problem I have is that I can’t keep enough of these plants around. The caterpillars eat them up in a
matter of hours.

This is how this area looked last week.

This is what it looks now, when they finish with the leaves they go after the stock.

Milkweed are resilient plants, they grow back fast.

I love seeing monarch caterpillars on my milkweeds, as well as zebra longwing caterpillars on the passionflowers. Most people seem to get irritated by the appearance, but I just like having the butterflies.

I also just saw three monarch catterpillars on my milkweed. They are really big! Can not wait to see they change to butterflies! Glad to know that they will grow back :)

Gorgeous monarch photo! Wow! So worth it even if a scraggly patch is created in the garden for a while. Good to know milkweed does bounce back quickly.

Want to FedEx me one or two of your caterpillars?

I'm only half joking.

Wow,glad you put up a pic of the Monarch caterpiller. If I saw that on one of my plants I would have mistook it for a mutant Tomato hornworm.

I know! My reseed heavily every year, maybe I can keep up with the caterpillars this year. We of course will be raising some again in our butterfly cage...

They are hungry little buggers...that's for sure, but there presence in the garden in both forms is definitely a welcome one. Just think of all the beautiful butterflies you're going to have.

Hi Rusty.....wonderful little nature reserve you have there.
Monarchs are beautiful, you are truly blessed to be honoured by them.

A kind american blogger sent me some milkweed seeds....the plants are around 6" high and have just been planted out. Whilst I will not get monarch butterflies, our native bugs might enjoy the blooms.......
