The winter has arrived!!!

The summer season is here (our winter), this morning the temperature was 93 degrees at 11am in my garden and the humidity was high. Working outside under these conditions is almost impossible; I limit my time in the garden to a couple of hours in the early morning and at sunset.

Today I spend the morning weeding my front garden and cleaning up some of the bromeliads, the pinwheel bush and ornamental grass are looking good together.

Many of the winter annuals like impatiens and petunias are dying of sun exposure; I usually plant rose moss and Mexican heather for summer color.

While working in the front today I noticed this dragonfly watching me from my powderpuff tree

A nice surprise

This beautiful flower bloomed last night on one of my cactus, totally unexpected

Summer's the same for me ... very hard to work in the garden.

You do have a lovely garden ... loved the purple grass and the garden bed full of impatiens and begonias.

Gorgeous dragonfly shot ... and that cactus bloom is stunning.

Our summers are like a northern winter in that they last a very long time. I'm with you...working in from late morning to late afternoon is impossible, and I avoid it, too. Your fountain looks great, and that BIG flower on that little cactus is outstanding...very pretty.

I agree with you about working outside in the summer. For me, the other part of the summer that bothers me is mosquitos! That makes working in evening hour is also not easy. But I still find myself in the garden everynight since that is only time I can work in the garden :)

Love your purple fountain grass and crape jasmine combination. I have both in my garden too. That cactus bloom is so stunning!

I also work in the garden early and late plus I have a lot of shade. We have had a cool spell, however.

Ooh, that night-blooming cactus is gorgeous!!! Your garden is beautiful! My impatiens were cut to the ground by the freezes, so I got no winter color from them this year. They fortunately have returned, and hopefully will survive in the heavy shade through the summer. (fingers crossed)We've had unbearable heat here in the valley for the past month, and it's so oppressive! I'll take it over the cold any day, though. : ) Gotta love Florida!

I haven't been here to visit in ages but your garden is lovely, even during your 'winter';-) Impatience like it here but only in deep shade during the summers, as it gets pretty darn hot and humid (high 90's) here in the summer too...but I know FL can be much more so. Your cactus bloom is lovely, what a nice surprise. Right now our weather, which had been quite nice, is now back in the 40's and rainy. It's hard to know what to expect from day to day and that gets a bit frustrating! The funny thing is that we have already had 90+ degree weather a few weeks ago, with high humidity, then it was just right (in the 70's)for a few days and for about a week it's been downright chilly. I guess we just take things a day at a time and take the bad with the good...that's life. Oh, I almost forgot, that is a wonderful photo of the dragonfly!

Good pic of the dragonfly. They can be so hard to photograph as they don't hold still very long.
