Bananas, anyone??!!!!!

When I purchased this banana tree a year ago it was about a foot tall. This week, I noticed a shoot that had grown into my neighbor's yard full of little bananas. I don’t know how I totally missed it before this.

These bananas are the dwarf type, much smaller than the kind sold in the local supermarket but, in my opinion, much sweeter and have a longer shelve life.

The best thing about growing bananas is that from one tree you get many. I already have three offspring plants growing next to the mother plant.

You have a nice crop for it's first offering! I think the little ones taste like banana ice cream.

Hi Rusty, your banana plant looks quite healthy...I too have a group bananas in my yard and they offer me delicious fruit from time to time but this time the fruit has some black marks on it...any idea what they are?
I agree with you that the fruits are tastier than those in market.

Rusty,
What a nice addition to your garden... growing your own bananas. Those trees get ginormous!... but they are oh so tropical looking.
Have a great weekend!

I agree with you-the little ones are sweeter. My favorite little ones are sucrier. Almost all the bananas sold is the US is Cavendish-one bred for shipping and uniform appearance, not taste.
When I was a child just about every home in the Caribbean had at least one banana tree. Yopu can use the ;eaves for wrapping food to be cooked, too eg empanadas or dumplings. the full but green bananas are also used in th Caribbean and Asia in a variety of dishes.
