Another lazy August day at the DragonFly

August in my opinion is the worst month of the year for Floridians. The weather is so hot and humid that working outside is wishful thinking, even in the early morning hours. We have been stock in this weather pattern for months with no relief in sight, and to make things worst August is the start of peak hurricane season.
I have several projects in the works for my garden, but for now it will have to wait for cooler months. For now my gardening is limited to light maintenance, plenty of watering and lots of pictures.

Update on my banana trees

Today I cut the hart from the three-banana bunch; a local farmer told me that this would redirect all the energy the plant has left to the bananas.

The hart is made up of many leyers of petals containing many rows of flowers that are expose when it pills back. The female flowers are on top of the stock and develop into fruits, these are male flowers (no fruits)

I started cuting the top hands in the stock and hopefuly the bananas will be ripen soon.

Pictures from around the garden this morning

This female Julia butterfly was looking for a male partner (like the one pictured in my last posting) You can tell the differece the orange in the males is more vivid.

Your powderpuff is beautiful! I have to say I love August, though, except for the whole school-starting-back part. Very interesting information on the bananas.

Gotta agree on the August heat thing. The weeds seem to love the heat, tho. And are rapidly overtaking everything.I didn't know that about bananas.I'm going to try that on our's.

I totally agree with you about the heat in August. I go out in starts and fits, but it's not nearly as enjoyable as when the weather is more pleasant. We're on the downside now...another 6 weeks and things will improve. Great shot looking through the powderpuff.

I can relate to your dislike of this hot time of year for you ... it all sounds so much like our Summer over here in Oz. Horrid heat, humidity, cyclone threats, long days of wickedly strong bright sunshine and then torrential rain if it's not a drought year!!!

Love the header photo of your Powderpuff ... I have a gorgeous pink one too and it puts on such a great display. Enjoy those yummy bananas.

I totally agree with you about the heat in August. Of course, this year, July was just as bad I think. But it's time to plant vegetables so that I will do starting next weekend. Your bananas are beautiful.

Yes, I agree August is dreadful for us in Florida. Mimosa capture is so pretty and they smell so good. Looks like a Skipper in your last photo.
