Flower of the week - The Yellow Ground Orchid.
This morning I started the long process of preparing my vegetable garden for fall planting.
First step pulling out all the weeds and moving the milkweed to another location.
Future Monarch Butterfly cafeteria. (Milkweed is their favorite food)
Next week I will be adding more soil and home made compost.
My black gold home made compost.
This is my future herb garden, not much survived the summer heat.
I harvested bananas today and cut down the stock, not an easy task in 95 degree weather.

Beautiful ground orchid and great banana harvest! And what a awesome photo of the fritillary being stalked by two lizards!
Hacking the banana down sounds awful in this heat... I about passed out the other day trying to work out there!
Nothing is easy in this heat. We have been getting some rain showers and that's helped some. Veggie area looks ready to me...

It is nice of you preparing a monarch butterfly cafeteria for monarch butterfly :) They will surely appreciate it! Love that yellow ground orchid, the color is so popping up. I saw one in HD the otherday, was hesitating if I should buy one since i alreayd have quite some other color (pink, purple), and my garden is running out of the space :(

Love the term "monarch cafeteria', Rusty. How interesting it must be to be able to harvest your own bananas (or citrus, or pineapples, or whatever). These are 'exotic' fruits to us in the northern part of the hemisphere, of course. We get to eat and enjoy them but they aren't able to grow here. Well, not yet anyway. A few more summers like this one and who knows....
