A baby owl in the Garden

Today for the first time a baby owl stuck its head out of the nest and greeted the world. What a surprise! I had no idea we had company.
This is without doubt the coolest thing that ever happened in my garden.

Mama kept an eye on me while I took the pictures. I understand now why she is always perched on top of the fan in my patio; it gives her a clear view of the nest and the entire garden.

Wow- that's awesome! I've never seen an owl outside of the zoo.

Mama would get pissed if someone turned that fan on!

What an exciting sight in your garden. You got a great, clear shot, as it stuck its fuzzy gray head out. If momma wasn't around to protect it, it looks like the baby's own beak could do some damage to an unsuspecting hand reaching into that hole. It will be fun to watch the baby develop in your own backyard.

Hi Rusty;

Great owl pictures! Obviously you have a comfortable place there even with Rosie and the cats and their friends roaming around. It's always amazing to me to watch an owl sitting there and when it decides to fly it just jumps up and is gone in milliseconds. I tried to get a barred owl picture the other night and only got a pile of snow in the time it took to click the button.

If you get a chance let your local Audubon members know about the new guest.

Oh my gosh, isn't the baby too cute! Congrats on becoming godparents(?) to the little Wol. They're just too outrageously cute. There's probably another one or two in the nest.
