Earth day at the DragonFly garden

To all my gardener-friends, "Happy Earth Day!" Here is my contribution to Earth Day. This weekend I purchased two 50-gallon rain barrels and a compost bin at BJ's Wholesale Club.

I will be connecting the rain barrels later this week.

My wife and I are serious about composting and NOTHING will be wasted from the garden or the kitchen!

That's some "cool" looking garden equipment you got there. I've never seen a rainbarrel like those. They definitely come in handy for watering potted plants, especially with the cost of water these days. Happy Earth Day!

Last week I bought a compost bin like yours. It is going to take a while for me to fill it as we are just a two person household. I told my hubbie I am going to go and mow some of our pasture to get some green stuff as we do not have lawns to mow. I am sure he thinks I am one of those nutty gardeners, but is too sweet to say so. *chuckle*

Rusty, nice contribution to Earth Day. I compost all I can, too. And use no pesticides or inorganic fertilizer. In Bermuda, we use our roof to collect all our water (it goes in a tank under the house). Does anybody do this in Florida? Say hi to Rosie.

Rusty, I am a new reader of your blog - and I am impressed with your beautiful begonias! Stunning - I guess many things grow well in South Florida - I am in North Georgia but planning to retire to Central Mexico in 2 years (San Miguel de Allende). Do you think you will miss the bouganvillas? I too am an organic gardener and have been composting for over 50 years! It's the only way to garden! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely new addition and the wonderful dragonfly garden. Robin in Roswell, GA

Hi Rusty....I am the composting queen.....I have nine bins on my one acre plot......this year I have distributed the compost, from six bins, around my garden. A wonderful addition to any garden.

I am liking your thinking......

Happy Earth Day Rusty! Well done on buying a compost bin and rainbarrels for your garden. Composting is great and so is watering your plants with rainwater from your own supply.

That bin is interesting, and a lot prettier than my pile.

Oh I've never seen a rain barrel before. How does that work? Neat!!!

I composted last year but turned my compost pile into a garden patch because I couldn't take the look of an unsightly dirt pile in my suburban backyard. I think I need to invest in a compost bin. :)

Great blog! :)
