Day 55 of my front garden makeover

White Hollyhocks

Today I took out my electric chain saw from the garage, and off I went to cut what was left of my bougainvillea trees.

Instead of pulling the plants out I decided to keep the stump, I will try to maintain the bougainvillea at a reasonable height, no taller than the fence (I hope I am not regretting this decision)

Firewood anyone???

Pictures from the garden this morning.

The hollyhocks are going strong this winter. Good thing I let these volunteers grow in my vegetable bed, because the tomato plants are doing poorly this year.

I love your 2 beautiful birdbaths with the mosaic tiling. Did you add the tiles yourself? I can picture the dragonflies skimming across their surface.

What a lot of work you've done, Rusty! It's all going to pay off. I love your white hollyhocks (mostly because hollyhocks generally hate me....)

Wow, that bougainvillea is (or was) a monster!

We are going to have to do something with a runaway bougie too. It is invading the neighbors who have an issue with it's thorns. They are on the south side of our fence so the plants keeps going to their side.

Lots of hard labor you've been doing;) Can't help but notice how one of the branches of the boug. wrapped itself behind the pipe.

The white hollyhocks are breathtaking! Sorry to hear your your tomato plants aren't thriving...but at least you've got something beautiful to look at:)

I grew hollyhocks once here in the center of the state, but had no idea you could grow them down south. They are beautiful!

Rusty,

Wow...those are firewood sized trunks! We aren't in Kansas...tropical trees! I agree with folks...the hollyhocks are lovely..there is something wonderful about white..it makes the simple flower look elegant.
