Vegetable garden ready for planting

This morning I got my vegetable bed ready for planting.

I added two full wheelbarrows of home grown black gold compost, and additional soil.

For now I’ll let it cook under the newspaper for month and start planting in early October.

This key lime tree was not doing well in a shady area of the garden; I am hoping this new location will do the trick (that’s the beauty of growing trees in containers)

Finished in time before the rain came down in buckets.

Who would have thought about putting paper down and letting the soil sit? Thanks for the tip.

looks like you finished up just in time. That's a good start for some fall vegetables. Good for you.

Glad to see you got your work done in time. We had a good storm hit about two hours ago, and it's still going. : ) I do the same thing here. My veggie "bed" is used as a compost pile in summer, and I went out a couple of weeks ago, and covered the whole thing with a layer of oak leaves topped with a layer of newspapers to keep weeds down. In a couple weeks, I'll shovel out the excess to put around other plants, and then pop in some veggie seeds.

Your veggie garden looks so rich! Send some buckets of rain this way please.

Nice compact area for your veggies. I plan on doing the same, along my fence row. I've not been successful with veggies here in Florida, so I'm glad to follow your lead/timeline. I also like the idea of a tree in a container. I have several in the ground, but a container would allow me to grow additional (such as the key lime) on the pool deck. Great idea!

I am simply jealous. My backyard looks like the Amazon gone wild, between the mosquitos and the thunderbolts. Ohhhh fall is but weeks away. Thank you for the inspiration and motivation. Time to start prepping and blogging.
