Every working day I have a morning ritual, my alarm is set for a 5:20 AM wakeup time, I usually do 40 minutes of yoga and then my wife and I take our dog Rosie for a morning walk.
After walking the dog, I get ready for work and have a quick breakfast. Recently before heading out I take 10 minutes to walk around the garden with my camera. This time of the morning the garden is timing with life, the sun is coming up and the lighting is perfect for pictures.
I find that these 10 minutes do more to keep my sanity during my one hour commute to work, than anything else I do all day.
Pictures from this morning.

Sounds like a great workout, you do get up early ! Your pictures are beautiful, thanks for the post, Gina
This is exactly why I garden! Sometimes, you need do some back-breaking work to get your mind off things. Sometimes, you just need to take a few minutes and examine the beauty of your garden in awe. Other times, you get excited because something new and amazing happened in your garden. Gardening definately helps me keep my sanity in this crazy world.
Morning pictures are the best! I LOVE the very first photo! And I am ashamed that I do yoga only once a week for an hour and a half.
I do the same ... the 10 minute walk around my garden.
I can not get up as early as you do, but I also do the morning walk in the garden, and then after work walk, and after dinner walk... sometimes I am lucky to get the light just right for pictures, sometimes not. I love the point of view of the third picture, which can see your back patio is also decorated with lots of plants.
Waking early is not as hard as getting going in the garden that early. I should try it foe taking photos. Your photos turned out swell.
Wow, I admire your dedication! I am often just barely gotten to sleep at 0530 am, given my erratic sleep habits. But I do love to wander the garden early in the morning, which I'm about to do this morning in the calm before what will probably be a very rough and stormy weekend.
I love your blog! I've bookmarked it so I can come back and read your experiences. I'm a master gardener in South Texas. I would like to ask you permission to use your March 30, 2007 pictures of the Kings Mantle for my article for the local newspaper. Please contact me maria4648@yahoo.com. TXS, Maria
I have a morning garden walk ritual as well. Only a few minutes, and equipped with camera, but what a difference it makes in my day. The lighting, the weather, everything is just perfect that time of day.
You have a beautiful garden!
What a wonderful way to start each day. I'll bet you miss your garden during the day while you're away. Nice photos...lovely garden. And, I really like the new look of your blog...very nice.
Same here! But I only have a 20 minute commute. Still, that early morning is so nice, isn't it?
We have our first cooler morning here in Houston and I'm not sure what to do first in the garden.
It's only 74 and low humidity instead of 84 with a 90% humidity.
Great pictures.
